The University of the Sunshine Coast was established in 1996, becoming the first public university to be built on a greenfield site in Australia in 23 years.

The 100 hectare campus is located in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, approximately 100km north of Queensland's capital city, Brisbane. Major centres such as Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Caloundra and Noosa are a short drive away.

The focus of the Campus Master Plan is on environmental sensitivity and symmetry between the campus centre and the surrounding open space. Students and staff enjoy modern facilities and the buildings have won many planning, architectural and construction awards. Wildlife such as eastern grey kangaroos from the neighbouring Mooloolah River National Park roam freely around the campus grounds.

These elements, combined with the friendly atmosphere only a smaller campus can provide, create a unique environment.

Modern student accommodation complexes equipped with swimming pools, tennis courts, and barbecue areas are located next to the campus. Shopping centres, cafes and banks are nearby.

Growth has been rapid and the University’s population is projected to grow to 15,000 by 2021.
